It ain't over till the fat lady sings..

You would think being wiser comes with being older. And you would think that a month off from school could do wonders to weary intellect dragged down by rote learning during school term. You would also think that going to Europe for 12 days would leave a deeper impression in your mind than your credit card bills.

You were wrong.

I turned 23 on the 22nd and despite the customary "birthday gathering" thingy with friends, the nite ended with the mandatory clean up which was almost lonely. Next week school starts and i dread it. My last term in school heralds the impending departure from the only life i had known for the past 17 years or so and step into the working world. The dreary punch card, 9-to-5, reports, 1 hour lunches, pantry abusing, slave-to-the-paycheck life.

Im not looking forward it.

I met Cisoux and LY for dinner. They had just come back from Laos and are busy updating their travelogues.

New Year's is coming and im not feeling all festive. The Club 21 and The Link sales are on but i don't feel like shopping. Menial, trivial stuff really. I have been training though. League starts in 10 days. But i will be away on holiday with NJ.

Tis the season to be jolly? What folly.

Barca Barca.. Bar... ca!

I was at Estadi Camp Nou last nite to watch the Barcelona vs. Malaga match. The stadium was the biggest in Europe and it was AMAZING.. Sure, i've watched soccer matches on TV and seen ronaldinho in action in adverts and match coverages but never in the flesh. However, im sad to report that thought the atmosphere was electrifying. the kind of cosiness and privacy one gets from being plonked on a sofa while watching a match is definitely missed.

I sat with F and we shared a tuna sandwich and gloves.. it didnt help that it was raining and the Barca fans are true to the root of the word, "fan".. the chants.. the jeering at the visiting team, it was an awesome experience..

Barca won 4-0. A pretty one sided affair. it got pretty boring after a while.. though the barca fans did their best to enliven the stadium with their incessant, 'Barca, Barca.. Bar....ca!' chants.

Well, another day in Barcelona. we are going to montserrat tomorrow.. Tuesday, we will be back home..

Hasta luego

On site

I´m in Barcelona on a study trip. Before coming to Europe i had always envisioned a somewhat ¨romantic¨ Europe. The kind with cobbled streets, long trenchcoats, hand in pocket, cold and nice looking men walking past. And my friend just got robbed as i was typing the previous few sentences. Very romantic indeed. Get this, we are in an Internet cafe. the bright orange ones with a few dozen terminals, not the seedy kind that is a hole-in-the-wall establishment kind. So we were at the terminals and she placed her bag on the chair she was sitting on.. and few minutes later, the bag was GONE. damn fucked. The story of 3 girls in Barcelona.

I received a ¨hate¨mail over get this, Friendster. what an oxymoron. Its ¨Friendster¨.. not ¨Hate mailster¨. Some guy, commented that i was a poseur and i had the most self absorbed profile on Friendster. Right. Over a few spelling errors. Damn weird.

The function of a profile is basically an exercise of a self promotion isn´t it? Who the FUCK would want to do the lame ass ¨Oh, im nothing, im insignificant.. don´t bother talking to me or being my friend.. There is nothing i can offer you..¨ And since self promotion is never based on humility and bangs on adjectives that focus on superlative functions... it would be understandable that some things written are more exaggerated than some. This guy, given his so called ¨calibre¨ should have known better than to nitpick on the picayune and trivial on a person´s profile. To deduce that i was a poseur by virtue of the fact that i had 2 spelling errors is definitely premature. But of course, im not assuming that a person of that ¨calibre¨ would see logic the way most people do let alone form sound arguments without engaging in personal insults and character assasination. SIGH.

So much for Europe. So much for Friendster.
